Orakei Korako Cave & Thermal Park

Also know as Hidden Valley, this geothermal wonderland sits between Rotorua and Taupo on the Waikato River at Lake Ohakuri. The Silica Terraces that greet you at the base of Orakei Koroako are believed to be the largest of their kind. You will see 23 active natural geysers and a number of boiling hot springs and mud pools as you walk the park.

This is an ever changing world inhabited by a variety of native flora and fauna.  A highlight of the walk is the Ruatapu Cave or “the sacred hole”. The cave reaches 120 ft. down to a natural and stunningly blue hot pool called Waiwhakaata, which means pool of mirror. This sacred place was used by Maori woman to bath and beautify themselves for ceremonies.

Sail Barbary

What better way to explore Lake Taupo than aboard a beautifully restored, historic electric yacht?  If you’re looking for an awesome activity in Taupo, join the locals on an eco-friendly boutique cruise with Sail Barbary.

Sail Barbary has been locally owned and operated since 1983, and offers Taupo water activities the Kiwi way. You can look out over sparking bays or stormy waters from the comfort of your bean-bag style seating, swim in the crystal clear waters, and have perfect photo opportunities of the 14-meter high Maori Rock Carvings.

Sit back and Relax, or make the trip as interactive as you like by helping the skipper hoist the sails or man the helm.

You can even BYO (Bring Your Own) prepared food and beverages!
