Located just 5 minutes north of Taupo on SH1 is a honey of a place that will be seen “Sweet As” by the entire family.  Kids of all ages will enjoy watching the bees hard at work in their glass viewing hives and in the learning centre, you’ll learn how and why the queen rules. Sample a myriad of yummy New Zealand made honey products including raw honey, jams, syrup, mead and loads of skincare and wellness products.  Try the homemade honey ice cream and fudge at their café. The Honey Hive also carries a wide range of New Zealand art and handcraft products at reasonable prices. This is a one of a kind “buzzing” experience not to be missed when visiting Taupo. The Huka Honey Hive is located at 65 Karetoto Road off Huka Falls Road in Wairakei Park.


Take an enchanting walking through native flora and fauna. Located only 15 kms from Lake Taupo in the direction of Hawkes Bay on State-Highway 5.

Opepe Reserve makes the ideal location for birdwatching as many native species to New Zealand inhabit the area. Stand next to a variety of mighty native trees at dominate the ever-green reserve.

Two tracks are available:

  • Loop Track - This takes about one hour and takes you around a loop of native trees and plaques with scientific descriptions
  • Cemetery Track - This track leads you through native surroundings and opens to the grave sites of five British men who were ambushed by Local Maori Chief Te Kooti and his men.

Head down to the Riverside Markets, held every Saturday's from 10am until 1pm.

Here you'll find a fabulous variety of stalls from fresh produce, handmade crafts & plants to name a few.

Don't worry about packing lunch, theres plenty of tasty food stalls that cater to your tastebuds, with a big emphasis on healthy & organic morsels.

If you feel like a coffee fix or a cold drink, you'll discover a couple of beverage carts to quench your thirst.

This market is suitable for anyone and everyone, so if you want to do something uniquely local, spend some of your Saturday at the Riverside Market, By the picturesque Riverside Park Reserve (Ask our team for directions and a free Taupo Attraction's Map)


Warm geothermal waters from Otumuheke Stream flow gently into the Waikato River at Spa Thermal Park, providing a hot spot where bathers can relax in healing mineral water.




The Huka Falls Walk from Spa Thermal Park in Taupo is an easy 1 hr 30 min short one way walk. Fantastic views of the mighty Waikato River along the way. You'll be amazed at how clear the water is in the river here, it's just stunning. Take a dip in the hot thermal creek on your way to Huka Falls, it's fantastic.

Once you reach Huka Falls there are plenty of different viewing points to watch the water rush through the tight ravine of sheer rock cliffs, creating a canal of big churning rapids.
